Founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka, Asics
Onitsuka started the company with the aim of helping Japanese youth regain a sense of pride and purpose through sports in the aftermath of World War II. The first product he produced was a basketball shoe, which he designed after studying the movement of basketball players. In 1977, Onitsuka Co. merged with two other companies, GTO and JELENK, to form Asics Corporation. This new entity expanded its product line to include a wide range of athletic footwear, apparel, and accessories, catering to various sports and activities.
